Billy going above and beyond for dementia

As part of our fundraising efforts for the year, one member of staff really is going above and beyond for a great cause.

Billy Jeal is donning his hiking gear as he prepares to conquer Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for new dementia therapy equipment.

The mammoth challenge will take just over a week to complete and will see our Junior Business Analyst scale the second tallest mountain in the world, and the biggest in Africa.

Billy is aiming to raise £6000 to fund an innovative new piece of equipment designed to improve the lives of people living with dementia.

Tovertafel uses pioneering technology to stimulate people with dementia to move more and interact socially, which has been shown to improve cognition and slow down the symptoms of the disease.

The Tovertafel is a little box that can be mounted on the ceiling, for instance, above the dining room table of a care institute. Inside the box is a high-quality projector, infrared sensors, speaker, and processor that work together to project the games onto the table. Because the colourful objects respond to hand and arm movements, residents get to play with the light itself.

This device will be installed at Milton Grange, an Assisted Living facility in Eastbourne, which specialises in Dementia Care.
